Carlotta Diggs was born on October 21, 1951 to Mercedes and Rudolph Nickens, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mercedes was a jazz singer in Pittsburgh and their home was always filled with music and musicians. Carlotta began singing at a very young age and began playing piano at the age of eight (8).
Her voice was cultivated in church and community choirs where she was often a featured soloist. At the age of 16, she began singing as a studio musician, doing background vocals for many artists, in the studio and on the road. At the same time, she became a professional model doing print work for several magazines and runway modeling for numerous designers.
Carlotta began her solo singing career at the age of 18 singing smooth jazz and love songs in night clubs and events. During this time, she continued to sing background for local studios and artists and the highlight of her career was performing at Carnegie Hall in 1997.
Currently, Carlotta is a featured artist for Road Records, she is currently writing original praise songs with artist Conrad Askland and is featured every week on “The Spiritual Connection” which can be heard on Stardust radio, 910 AM.
This CD is a tribute to her daughter, Lauri Amber Reinke-Diggs, who succumbed to Lupus Erythematosus on December 10, 1999. This CD expresses her emotions during her journey through grief.
Carlotta is currently working on a new CD which will feature original songs and which will return here to her first love, Jazz!!
