You may have never met Clydene Jackson Edwards, but you’ve most certainly have heard her singing on platinum records by Rod Stewart, Barbra Streisand, Michael McDonald, Patti LaBelle and others; in top-grossing films like The Lion King, The Sixth Sense and Toy Story 2; on hundreds of national commercials and prime-time network television shows, and possibly in a concert hall or candle-lit cabaret.
Clydene is best known in the music industry as a first-call session singer, twice recognized with the MVP Best Female Vocalist Award from the (NARAS) National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. She is also an accomplished composer, lyricist and arranger. Her songs have been recorded by Natalie Cole and Barbara Mandrell plus she composed the theme for ABC-TV’s "Homeroom."
Originally from Oakland, California, she began her musical life as a pianist, studying the classics, playing and singing in church choirs. “When I went to see my friend at a piano bar, he pulled me up and made me sing ‘Misty’ and I thought ‘whoa, there really is something to all this.” When Clydene interprets her own lyrics and melodies she creates a powerful circle.
Clydene’s debut solo album, ‘Fresh”, produced by the legendary Ray Charles, allowed her to fulfill both roles, songwriter and performer. She enjoys expressing her individuality as an artist and anticipates another solo record in late 2002. As a member of GRAVITY, this band also sparks her skills in writing, recording and touring; the group debuted their first recording on Pony Canyon Records label. By early 1997, GRAVITY’s recordings earned them a solid concert audience and regular tours of Japan and Hawaii. Today, Clydene continues to tour with GRAVITY and is a consummate session vocalist. “Studio singing is such a wonderful way to make a living,” she says, “it gives me freedom, time for my family and so many wonderful projects.”
Clydene Jackson Edwards sings with grace, elegance and passion; her voice has a direct connection to her soul.
