Ken Risling grew up in Modesto, California, and learned the traditional songs and dances of his Hupa, Yurok, and Karok heritage during summers spent in their Humboldt County homeland. Dancing the Bow and Arrow dance, Flower Dance, Brush Dance, and War Dance among others helped develop his rhythm and appreciation for the power of music. Music was a constant presence in the Risling home. Both of his parents have a great love of music, singing and playing various instruments, and their children followed suit.
Ken began with the trumpet at age ten, and through his school years performed on guitar, French horn, alto horn, tuba, piano, electric bass, and voice at every opportunity. In 1977, he finally graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in economics (which he hated) instead of astronomy (which he loved) or music (duh). Oh, well. Ken's contact with music -- ranging from folk and rock to jazz and classical -- encourages and influences him today.
He presently has an electrical contracting business, Risling Electric, based in Santa Rosa, California. He spends his free time writing music and playing guitar, piano, and bass, cooking, riding bicycles (not often enough), playing cribbage, and unschooling his youngest. He is also learning how to play D&D with his son. He lives with his partner, Kate Sholl, and their two youngest children, Oona and Avery. They have two older daughters, Jessica and Giddy, and one grandson.
Accolades

Staff Notes
We have been excited and impressed with his utilization of our team's help and expertise in a very short amount of time to release the first fully produced song "Cloud of Pain." It is not only a beautiful song, but is also timely for the world events in 2001 that impacted people's lives everywhere. Ken is a very talented songwriter with a lot to say and we're all looking forward to more of his material in the near future.
Music without words means leaving behind the mind. And leaving behind the mind is meditation.
Meditation returns you to the source. And the source of all is sound. — Kabir
