2 Artists Southern Gospel
is a genre whose roots extend to over 400 years ago. The "tribal African music" from over 400 years ago, were the first origins of Southern Gospel. No other culture is associated with Gospel Music more than the African culture. One of the biggest influences on Southern Gospel, is indeed it's roots in African-American music. The music was first recognized as "Anthem music", and was later known as spirituals', and much later would be known as Gospel Music. From the African roots you can see a lot of similarities. If you listen to the Southern Gospel of today and the past you will hear a major predominant style. That style was brought to America during the slavery period of the early 1600s to 1865. It is the call and response pattern in which a leader sings a line and the entire group answers. The mix of genre influences to Southern Gospel may include Blues and Black Gospel music.

Meditation returns you to the source. And the source of all is sound. — Kabir
